The Drag Reduction System, commonly known as DRS, is not exclusive to Formula 1. In fact, it has found its way into other motorsport series, including Formula 2 and Formula 3, which share the F1 support bill. The integration of DRS in Formula 3 occurred in 2017 when the series was known as GP3.
Initially, drivers were limited to activating and utilizing the system on a maximum of six laps during feature races and four laps in sprint events. However, starting in 2019, Its usage in F3 has been aligned with the rules and regulations of Formula 1. Formula 2, previously referred to as GP2, has been incorporating DRS since 2015.

Even with the introduction of the new F2 2018 car for the 2018 season, the series continued to feature it, enhancing the racing dynamics. Notably, DRS has been employed in a manner similar to Formula 1 in some other racing competitions, such as the DTM, which utilized DRS until it transitioned to GT3 rules in 2021.
It’s worth mentioning that various motorsport series incorporate overtaking aids, albeit with different approaches. Some opt for temporarily boosting engine performance during specific time intervals within a race, exemplified by IndyCar’s push-to-pass and Super Formula’s Overtake System. Conversely, Formula E employs an “attack mode” that allows drivers to momentarily operate in a more potent energy deployment setting, with the specific duration varying from one race to another.
